The Q-Motion Method places dancers in an active setting, encouraging them to make choices about how they move. This approach is based on using movement functionality to address and navigate decision-making. Through Q-Motion training, dancers are invited to explore their own physical possibilities. In each session, we work on expanding and mastering our range of movement, with the goal of achieving a variety of movement qualities—such as density, volume, and speed. This practice fosters a deep understanding of the body and its capabilities, helping dancers develop a unique identity in using movement as a tool to express their individuality and wholeness.
Developed thanks to the collaboration of London City University, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, the National Dance Company, and the National Ballet of Spain.
What if, instead of building dance from a set vocabulary, we treat any movement as potential material?
Eva Sánchez Martz introduces chance as a creative element, valuing the play with space and time
A new approach to dance creation, developed after years of exploration and rigorous, tested, and published studies with leading artists and scientists—a team of specialists behind the publications that support Wayne McGregor’s Choreographic Thinking Tools manual—now reaches new horizons with the launch of the Q-Motion Method by Eva Sánchez Martz.
Q-MOTION SYSTEM
- Body as a Learning Tool:
The body is not merely a trained instrument responding to a choreographer’s vision; it serves as a source of information and a valuable learning tool. - Integration of Elements:
The technique emphasizes the integration of body, mind, emotion, and spirit, guiding individuals to move intelligently rather than just improving skills or strength. - Awareness of Movement:
It fosters the understanding that movement is not something we “possess”; instead, we are fully immersed in it.
Principles of Training
- Principles of Truth:
This training is based on fundamental principles where there is no such thing as error, allowing performers to create their own language of movement. - Understanding Actions:
By understanding our actions, we can transform involuntary movements into voluntary ones, bringing awareness to the unknown, and making what seems impossible possible. - Freedom of Choice:
The approach enables individuals to act by choice rather than by habit.
Focus of Q-Motion Learning
- Emphasis on How Over What:
In the Q-Motion context, the focus is on how one moves rather than what the movement is.
